A visionary future
ReplyDeleteQuality of life -
ReplyDeleteI value our downtown area. This is a bygone thing in most cities. I believe it makes our city friendlier. I also make regular use of and highly value our parks. We have beautiful and well-cared-for parks. They are an incredibly important asset. I remember almost forty years ago with my dad was going to move our family from Bozeman to Great Falls he said "wait until you see their beautiful parks!" We weren't disappointed.
ReplyDeleteIt has always been my home so I really don't know anything different - I have nothing to compare it with.
ReplyDeleteSorry to say there is not too much that makes me want to live here. If it wasn't for my job, I would move away.Great Falls offers nothing for young people to do or to entertain themselves - seems our police department makes a living with underage drinking offenders and driving infractions. It is looking more and more like a retirement community.
ReplyDeleteI value the small town feel because, being from a small town, it's comfortable to me and makes me feel connected to the community. I also value the parks and especially the river trail. I'm all for extending the trail and using it to connect different areas of Great Falls.
ReplyDeleteThe small town atmosphere is great, but it seems like Great Falls is becoming a dropping off place for those in need of welfare and subsidy. There is no economic growth and with the population becoming elderly, no hope.
ReplyDeleteI value the clear blue skies more than anything. Even if it is -30, at least the skies are normally clear and beautiful.
ReplyDeletePrevious vision efforts have been great ideas and accomplishments. If you're looking for a new project, I think a riverside restaurant with a deck to the east in the old Holman warehouse south of Central Avenue West bridge would be awesome. It would clean up an eyesore and be a great meeting place for GF residents. As it is now, all new commercial development along the river offers very little for GF people - mostly visitors. Our community NEEDS fine dining by the river!! It would be a great improvement and attraction. Please work on getting a group of investors or a chain--provide tax incentives--help with tearing down the old building--whatever it takes to bring a restaurant to the shores of the river. It would add a great deal to the beauty of our city. Thanks
ReplyDeleteI like that it is easy to get out of the city and into the country. There is not lot of urban sprawl here and I hope it stays that way.
ReplyDeleteI like the small town feel of Great Falls, yet there is always something to do there; whether it's shopping, a movie, etc. The downtown area is great with the friendly merchants and unique merchandise and Marketplace is a great place to shop and a good alternative to the mall.
ReplyDeleteI value the uniqueness of Great Falls. It's different than the "cookie cutter" cities of similar size in Montana. That uniqueness cuts both ways... good and bad.
ReplyDeleteGreat Falls is a part of Montana...I love the open sky, the fact that it is close to ski hills and hiking trails, and I love that the river is a part of the city. I think Great Falls is a little behind as far as city development, but that it is even more open for potential. I love the shopping down town and am hopeful that we will someday have more locally owned coffee shops that are open later. It is also sad to see the lack of development on the river. I think Great Falls has some struggles, but there are good people here who can and will make it a good place to live.
ReplyDeleteWhat I value the most in Great Falls would be the people. People in our city are some of the friendliest, helpful people in Montana. Everyone is always eager to help those in times of need.
ReplyDeleteWhat I value most about Great Falls is the opportunity. I feel as if coming form a little-known town frees me from the contraints of expectations, and the ability to suprise rather than fail.
ReplyDeleteI like the small businesses and how families are interconnected. It gives a small town feel but not too small
ReplyDeleteI value the scenery surrounding Great Falls--I think it's beautiful to get to drive into town in the morning for school and see the sun rise behind the mountains. The shopping is as good as it could probably be for a city this size of mostly older people, but obviously not as fun as larger cities. I really like Great Falls, but I don't see myself working my whole life here.
ReplyDeleteIn great falls I value the beautiful blue sky and the weather we receive. I enjoy all the positive people and places to meet these people. I love the places we can visit like the Rivers Edge Trail, the Lewis and Clark building, Giant Springs Park, and the down town area. I would like to see more areas of Great Falls that people can go for a more social experience. I value all the wonderful places and people that we have in Great Falls and i consided myself lucky to have been born and raised in such a beautiful place. It is the just right size and has many opportunities that can be taken within your life time. That is everything I value about Great Falls.
ReplyDeleteI value the two rivers here in Great Falls. They are the city center piece. Great Falls is a comfortable sized town with all the shopping chain outfits that are found in bigger cities with a few exceptions. With a array of outdoor activities in all directions.
ReplyDeleteI moved back from a very large metropolitan area, and I really missed my family and friends. Great Falls is limited in many cultural things, but it's a comfortable place to live. While some people might think that is a negative trait, I've learned that it's a positive one. In the grand scheme of things, isn't it best if a person feels comfortable in their life?
ReplyDeleteI value the wonderful places in Great Falls, particularly the historic ones - Downtown, Russell House and Studio, and the Great Falls Portage. These give the city it's unique character. “Among cities with no particular recreational appeal, those that have preserved their past continue to enjoy tourism. Those that haven’t, receive almost no tourism at all. Tourism simply doesn’t go to a city that has lost its soul.” – Arthur Frommer, publisher of over 300 travel guides since 1957.
ReplyDeleteThe People! Folks seem to be generous and friendly. There's always help and always a smile.
ReplyDeleteI value the school system. The opportunity for higher education - two systems within Great Falls. I value old buildings and efforts to keep them. Downtown has a wonderful resource of old buildings, with opportunities to make them into wonderful retail even housing locations. I value Gibson Park. Need to do more there.
ReplyDeleteI value the medium size town surrounded by the beautiful scenery. Having the Missouri and Sun Rivers right here and easily viewed by anyone is what makes me want to stay in Great Falls. I need quick access to open space and to the medium size events that Great Falls has to offer.
ReplyDeleteI appreciate that historic character that Great Falls still offers with its old homes and downtown buildings, yet these places need to be taken care of. The character and style of many of the homes in Great Falls still lives, where in other cities across the country these homes have been whipped out, but here they still stand proud. They may have peeling paint, a rundown porch, or ancient electrical work, but they still stand with enormous potential. We need to make it a priority to save these homes, stir an interest in the general public, and get these homes renovated to the point where we are too proud of them. We need to get people to want to live downtown.
ReplyDeleteThe downtown is a ghost of what it once was with no residential opportunities on upper floors and out of date retail and storefronts. There are some new things happening in the downtown area and there are a handful of modernized stores, but Great Falls needs to take better care of what it already has in hopes to build for the future. We need to update our downtown and start to create opportunities for new construction and renovation. The downtown is the heart and soul of any community and we need our heart to be beating all day and all night, into the weekend and open after work. We need a liven up our soul to cater to the youth and young professionals so we stop giving our children away to remote universities and more happening places. We need a balance between the youth and the retirement community and to do so I believe the answer lies within downtown.

The potential of this city is great. but it kicks out the younger generations and the single. In my mid 20's I interviewed for a job that I would have needed training for. The owner of that place told me to go out of state to get that training, because he did not want to train any one.
ReplyDeleteThe people and their generous community spirit is unparalleled by any other city I’ve inhabited. That’s the best of the best of Great Falls. A few more of my favorite things: the River’s Edge trail, the Native Nations’ cultural influences, great burgers and shakes, the size and stability of the city, proximity to agriculture and local foods, fishing, Interpretive Center, Russell and Children’s museums, 2Js and farmer’s markets, our school system (better than most people realize), and the fairgrounds, too. Mostly, the size of the city is manageable while being large enough to provide some variety.
ReplyDeleteI appreciate the people of Great Falls. Love the river, and the recreation it affords. Love the wind for the hope it brings for sustainable energy.
